One of the best things about campaigning in towns and counties that I'm not so familiar with is meeting people and adding to my list of friends. There are great people wherever one goes! And great conservatives I might add.

A couple of weeks ago Senator Charles Grassley visited in Centerville and Albia, and I attended both meetings. In the "town-hall" settings a number of citizens voiced their concerns about the over-arching influence of government in their lives, businesses and schools. A local banker presented the Senator with a thick bundle of paper......90 pages in all. He then explained that it takes 90 pages of documents for a bank to complete a single home mortgage loan; if the customer wants a copy the bank has to print another 90 pages. All thanks to the new regulations that came out of the Dodd-Frank bill.

The good Senator didn't make any of us feel better when he told us that Washington had produced 65,000 pages of new regulations just last year!

The State of Iowa is probably not quite as out of control as the feds are, but we still have far too much intrusion in our lives and businesses from bloated government. As a county supervisor in just the last year I've been part of battles with four different state departments over problems that exist only because the state says they exist, not because there are any real problems. I know that sounds like a strange way to express it, but it's accurate. We incur significant costs and spend tremendous amounts of time in pursuit of compliance with regulations that are specious at best.

One of the primary reasons I feel compelled to run for the Senate is reduce regulatory over-reach. Please let me know of your frustrations!
